Alexius Anthony, Successful Third Grader
She Makes Us Proud: A Letter from her Principal
It is an absolute pleasure to write in regards to the academic achievement
of Alexius Anthony during the 2003-04 school year. Alexius is an ESE
student having services provided for her in the area of English Language
Arts (ELA.) However, Alexius refuses to be left out of any regular
classroom activities. She completes all reading assessments with her
homeroom teacher. Not only does Alexius have the determination to
take all test required for the regular classroom students, but she
does exceptionally well and out scores many of her classmates.
During the 2002-03 school year Alexius teacher commented, “Alexius
has difficulty completing class work and needs reinforcement of class
work at home.” This years comments have progressed to statements
such as: “Alexius shows good growth in basic skills; she participates
in all class assignments and she is making excellent progress!”
Alexius is in Mrs. Marlo Gordon’s third grade class. Mrs. Gordon
is Pine Estates teacher of the year and is a phenomenal teacher. She
has high expectations out of all her students and correlates all lessons
with the state and national standards.
This is Alexius’ second year with Mrs. Gordon. Her mother insisted
that she remain with Mrs. Gordon if she indeed must be retained in
third grade. The idea of Alexius repeating third grade was almost
devastating for Mrs. Anthony. Her major concern was the fact that
Alexius would be much further behind than her peers when she reached
graduation at the high school level. However, after innumerous conferences
between parent, teacher, counselor and myself, she was convinced that
Alexius would benefit from another year in third grade.
Alexius has shown tremendous growth and her mother is more than satisfied
with her accomplishments. Alexius has progressed to working on a third
grade level and her self-esteem has bolstered far beyond our greatest
imaginations! Alexius current academic achievement has not only made
us proud, but her mother and most importantly, Alexius is proud of
herself.
