Derek Nagy, Successful 3rd Grader
Academic Success Brings Improvement
in All Areas
It is not uncommon to see children with behavior problems lash
out simply in frustration because they have not mastered the
skills they need to understand material being covered in class.
When schools develop innovative remediation programs, students
who are retained can quickly develop the fundamentals they need.
When they do, behavior problems caused by frustration give way
to tremendous progress.
Derek Nagy was an unmotivated student who exhibited behavior
problems that led to poor academic performance. Derek repeated
the third grade and was moved into the Intensive Acceleration
Class at Calusa Park Elementary. Through this course, Derek was
able to receive immediate intensive instruction in reading, writing,
and mathematics.
Derek has thrived in the environment of the Intensive Acceleration
Class. He is now completing assignments and is engaged in class.
Derek loves learning so much he sometimes chooses to stay in
the classroom during recess. Not only has Derek’s behavior
improved dramatically, he has learned to read and it is paying
off. Once a struggling reader unable to read even at a basic
level, he is now reading on grade level. With the right assistance
and focus, what a difference a year makes!
